I was definitely naive. I was naive about the outcome of the entire nation's vote! My father and I had a somewhat heated conversation about the election. He told me, and I quote "Osama bin Laden has you by the ying-yangs." How very Republican of him.

In my opinion, I do not think that the situation in Iraq can truly be compared to the Holocaust. There are oppressed peoples all over this world. There are unjust governments in every corner of this planet. It happens every minute of every day. And Vanessa is right that the world should be aware and be pro-active to these injustices, but I'm not convinced that fighting these injustices are our nation's administration's intentions.

I see stark, stark differences between the Holocaust and the situation in Iraq. I think a more comparable tragic situation is those people led to a destructive violent existence through Osama Bin Laden. He's captivating. He makes a twisted, insane sort of sense to a large group of motivated people. This is where the true trouble lies. This is our present day Hitler. This is where our efforts should be concentrated. And what did we learn about Hitler's campaign on the German people? They were bombarded with one-sided propaganda, and if the world would have intercepted this propaganda machine, the snakes head would have been chopped off.

Hussein was an evil, dangerous man- no doubt, but the masses under him were not happy with him and that is the first step to an uprising.

Beware of the ones who truly motivate people to act out of their desires and passions- they hold unharnessed power. Those who "motivate" through fear and torture, though very destructive, do not truly hold unharnessed power. Hussein's message "follow me or die" more or less died with his imprisonment, but Bin Laden's message of hate lives on.
